Nick grew up outside Jackson, Michigan, where money was tight and mattresses were old. When he got a new mattress for his 16th birthday, it changed everything. Better sleep meant better days. That stuck with him.

He put himself through the University of Michigan by working at a local mattress store near Lansing, where he sold Capitol Bedding mattresses and learned the business from the ground up. He also saw how complicated the mattress industry had become: confusing showroom floors (and even more confusing online), constant "sales", marketing jargon, and mattresses made with sub-par materials. Buying a mattress shouldn’t feel like a guessing game. 

Capitol Bedding was different. Family-owned. Focused on craftsmanship. Transparent about materials. They built mattresses the right way, and that made an impression.

After years in the corporate world, Nick and his wife Allison decided they'd had enough. In 2016, they quit their jobs and started Rested Pillow with a simple idea: make honest mattresses, sell them at a fair price, and treat people the way you'd want to be treated.

They called Capitol Bedding, the same Michigan mattress maker Nick had believed in since college, and asked them to build a line of mattresses made the right way.

We didn't just pick any manufacturer. We partnered with Capitol Bedding in Grand Ledge, Michigan, because they've been doing this longer and better than almost anyone.

Capitol Bedding has been making mattresses in Michigan since 1946. It's a small factory run by a second-generation owner who's been building beds since he was a teenager.
